Methodology

How data and research pieces are produced, and what they always state.

What every data piece states

A piece built on data always records:

  • the data source and a link to it,
  • the period covered,
  • the units, and whether figures are levels or rates,
  • what we did to the data,
  • what the data does not show.

Correlation is not cause

We do not infer a cause from two series moving together unless there is evidence for it. Where a reading is ours, it is labelled analysis, not fact.

Worked examples

Worked calculations are labelled as illustrative examples and state their assumptions. They do not replace a payroll calculation for a specific employee or a legal assessment.

Calculators

We do not reproduce the arithmetic of the TalentPartnerID calculators here. We describe what a tool computes, what it rests on and what it deliberately refuses, and link to the tool’s canonical page. Two implementations of the same calculation would eventually disagree.
